Possible Causes
Clogged cross tube between sink bowls, Improperly installed P-trap below Astracast outlet, Food buildup in shared drain line, Lack of proper venting causing slow drainage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the disposal and power at the breaker before disassembling plumbing.
- Step 1 – Plunge non-disposal side: Use a sink plunger on the non-disposal bowl while blocking the disposal opening with a stopper to clear minor clogs.
- Step 2 – Clean cross tube and trap: Remove the cross tube and P-trap under the sink. Clear any food or grease buildup and rinse thoroughly.
- Step 3 – Reassemble correctly: Ensure the Astracast outlet connects properly to the trap and that there is only one P-trap serving both bowls.
- Step 4 – Flush drain: Run hot water for several minutes to flush the line.
- Step 5 – Check venting: If backups persist, a venting issue or deeper drain clog may require a plumber.
Warning: Do not use chemical drain cleaners; they can damage the disposal and plumbing.
