Possible Causes
Tripped internal overload/reset button, Tripped circuit breaker, Faulty wall switch, Loose or burned power cord connection at disposal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Always turn OFF the circuit breaker feeding the disposal before touching the unit or wiring. Never put your hand into the grinding chamber.
- Step 1 – Check the reset button: Under the Electrolux disposal housing, locate the small red or black reset/overload button. Press it firmly until it clicks. Restore power and test the wall switch.
- Step 2 – Verify the wall outlet or hardwire circuit: If the disposal is corded, unplug it and test the outlet with a lamp or tester. If hardwired, confirm the kitchen disposal breaker is ON at the panel.
- Step 3 – Inspect the wall switch: With power OFF at the breaker, remove the switch cover and check for loose wires or burned contacts. Replace the switch if it feels hot, loose, or visibly damaged.
- Step 4 – Check the power cord connection at the disposal: For corded Electrolux models, remove the bottom access cover (power off) and verify the cord wires are tight in the terminal block and wire nuts are secure.
- If the unit still shows no response after reset and power checks, the internal control or motor windings may be open and the disposal should be replaced or inspected by a technician.
