Possible Causes
Metal utensil dropped into chamber, Loose mounting hardware or baffle, Broken glass or screws inside chamber
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the wall switch and the circuit breaker. Never put your hand into the disposal, even when power is off; use tools.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Remove the sink stopper and rubber splash guard (if removable). Shine a flashlight into the chamber to locate foreign objects.
- Step 2 – Remove objects: Use long-nose pliers, tongs, or a magnetic pickup tool to remove utensils, screws, or other debris. Rotate the impeller plate manually with a wooden spoon to expose hidden items.
- Step 3 – Check mounting ring and baffle: From under the sink, verify the mounting ring is tight and the rubber sink baffle is seated correctly and not contacting the impellers.
- Step 4 – Test operation: Restore power, run water, and briefly operate the disposal. If noise persists, recheck for small fragments of metal or glass.
- If the shredder ring or impellers are visibly damaged or bent, the grinding assembly or entire disposal should be replaced.
