Possible Causes
Failed internal shaft seal, Corroded grinding chamber, Cracked lower housing, Rusted through motor cavity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and disconnect the disposal from power. Place a pan or bucket under the unit to catch drips.
- Step 1 – Confirm leak origin: Run water in the sink without operating the disposal. If water drips from the bottom center or motor housing, the internal seal is compromised.
- Step 2 – Inspect exterior: Check for visible cracks or corrosion on the lower housing. Do not attempt to open the sealed motor compartment.
- Step 3 – Plan for replacement: Internal leaks are not serviceable on Electrolux disposals. The unit must be replaced to prevent electrical hazards and cabinet damage.
- Step 4 – Remove and replace: Disconnect plumbing and mounting hardware, remove the old unit, and install a new Electrolux disposal following the installation guide.
