Possible Causes
Worn shredder ring teeth, Rounded impeller lugs, Corroded grinding chamber, Misaligned impeller plate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker before inspecting the grinding chamber.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Shine a flashlight into the chamber. Look for smooth, worn teeth on the shredder ring and rounded impeller lugs.
- Step 2 – Clean buildup: Mineral deposits and grease can reduce grinding efficiency. Pour a mixture of ice cubes and coarse salt into the chamber and run the disposal with cold water for 30–60 seconds to scour the ring.
- Step 3 – Re-test grinding: Try a small amount of soft food waste. If large pieces still remain, the grinding components are likely worn beyond cleaning.
- Step 4 – Plan for replacement: On most Electrolux disposals, the shredder ring and impeller plate are not user-serviceable separately. Replace the entire disposal for restored performance.
