Possible Causes

Grease-coated discharge elbow, Sludge in P-trap, Narrowed branch drain due to buildup, Misaligned or sagging drain pipes

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker before removing any plumbing connections.

  • Step 1 – Flush with hot water: Run very hot water for several minutes to see if minor grease buildup clears.
  • Step 2 – Remove and clean discharge elbow: Place a bucket under the elbow, loosen slip nuts, and remove the elbow. Scrub out grease and debris.
  • Step 3 – Clean P-trap and branch: Remove the P-trap and clean thoroughly. Use a small drain snake to clear the first few feet of the wall pipe.
  • Step 4 – Reassemble with proper slope: Ensure horizontal pipes have a slight downward slope toward the wall drain to promote flow.
  • Step 5 – Test: Reconnect everything, run water, and operate the disposal to confirm improved drainage.
