Possible Causes
Loose slip nut, Misaligned discharge elbow, Cracked discharge gasket, Cross-threaded plastic nut
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and do not operate the disposal until the leak is fixed.
- Step 1 – Tighten slip nuts: Use channel-lock pliers to gently tighten the slip nuts at the discharge elbow and P-trap. Do not overtighten plastic nuts.
- Step 2 – Inspect gaskets: Disassemble the leaking joint and inspect the rubber or nylon gasket. Replace if cracked, flattened, or missing.
- Step 3 – Align piping: Ensure the pipes are straight and not putting side pressure on the joint, which can cause leaks.
- Step 4 – Reassemble and test: Reconnect the joint, run water, and operate the disposal while checking for drips.
