Possible Causes
Prolonged overload grinding, Jammed rotor causing high current, Failing motor windings, Shorted internal wiring in Everbilt unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately turn OFF the wall switch and unplug the disposal or shut OFF the breaker. Do not attempt to restart until inspected.
- Allow cooling: Let the unit cool for at least 20–30 minutes. Press the red reset button on the bottom after cooling.
- Check for jams: With power disconnected, use the bottom hex socket to rotate the motor shaft and ensure it moves freely. Remove any obstructions from the grinding chamber with tongs.
- Inspect for visible damage: Look for melted plastic, scorch marks, or burned odor near the bottom motor housing.
- Do not continue using a smoking unit: If smoke was present or the burning smell returns quickly, the motor windings are likely damaged. Replace the Everbilt disposal.
