Everbilt
Impeller/Jam Plate Seized (Rotor Locked)
Garbage disposal hums but does not spin when switched on

Possible Causes
Impeller plate jammed by foreign object, Jam nut or shredder ring obstructed, Motor rotor seized from rust, Worn motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the wall switch and unplug the Everbilt disposal from the outlet under the sink. If it is hardwired, switch OFF the correct circuit breaker and verify power is off.
Step-by-step:
- Check for reset: Locate the red reset button on the bottom of the Everbilt disposal. Press it firmly once. If it clicks, the overload was tripped. Restore power and test. If it still only hums, continue.
- Manually free the jam: Insert the Everbilt jam-buster wrench or a 1/4" hex Allen key into the hex socket on the bottom center of the disposal motor. Rotate the wrench back and forth several times to free the impeller plate.
- Clear foreign objects: Remove the sink baffle/splash guard from the top. Using a flashlight and tongs/pliers (never your hand), remove any bones, metal, glass, or fibrous material around the impellers and shredder ring.
- Retest: Restore power, run cold water, then briefly turn the switch ON. If the unit now spins freely and grinds, the jam is cleared.
- If still humming only: The motor rotor or bearings may be seized. At this point, replacement of the Everbilt disposal unit is usually more economical than motor repair. Contact a technician if you are not comfortable replacing the unit.
