Everbilt
Dull Impellers / Worn Shredder Ring
Garbage disposal runs but makes a low rumbling noise and grinds poorly
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Normal wear of Everbilt grinding components, Corrosion on shredder ring, Build-up of scale and food residue, Misuse with hard materials
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the disposal before any internal inspection.
- Clean grinding components: Pour a tray of ice cubes and a small handful of rock salt into the disposal. Run cold water and turn the unit ON for 30–60 seconds to help clean and slightly sharpen the impellers and shredder ring.
- Descale: Turn OFF the unit, then pour 1/2 cup of baking soda followed by 1 cup of white vinegar into the disposal. Let it foam for 10–15 minutes, then flush with hot water (unit OFF).
- Re-test grinding: Run cold water and grind small food scraps. If performance is still poor, the grinding components are likely worn.
- Replace unit if needed: Everbilt grinding plates and shredder rings are not user-replaceable; replace the disposal if grinding remains weak.
