Everbilt
Motor Overload / Overcurrent
Garbage disposal trips the reset button frequently during use

Possible Causes
Overloading chamber with food waste, Running without sufficient water, Dull impellers causing strain, Partially seized motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Everbilt disposal or switch OFF the breaker before inspecting.
- Reduce load: Avoid feeding large quantities of food at once. Run a steady stream of cold water and feed small batches.
- Clear internal obstructions: Remove the splash guard and inspect the grinding chamber with a flashlight. Use tongs to remove any hard items (bones, utensils, stones) that may be overloading the motor.
- Free the impeller: Use the hex socket on the bottom with an Allen wrench to rotate the motor shaft back and forth. This can reduce startup torque and help the motor run cooler.
- Sharpen/clean impellers: Run a few ice cubes and a small amount of rock salt through the unit with cold water to help clean and slightly sharpen the impellers and shredder ring.
- If overload persists: The motor windings or bearings may be failing. Frequent trips indicate internal damage; plan to replace the Everbilt disposal.
