Everbilt
Dishwasher Knockout Plug Not Removed or Drain Routing Issue
Newly installed Everbilt garbage disposal causes dishwasher to back up into sink
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dishwasher knockout plug still in Everbilt dishwasher inlet, Dishwasher drain hose routed incorrectly, Dishwasher hose not looped high or connected to air gap, Partial clog at disposal inlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power to the disposal and dishwasher at the breaker. Do not run either appliance until corrected.
- Check knockout plug:
- Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the Everbilt disposal inlet.
- Shine a flashlight into the inlet. If you see a solid plastic wall, the knockout plug was not removed.
- Use a screwdriver and hammer to gently knock out the plug from inside the inlet, then retrieve the loose plug from the grinding chamber with tongs.
- Verify hose routing: Ensure the dishwasher drain hose has a high loop under the countertop or is connected to an air gap before entering the disposal. This prevents backflow.
- Reconnect and clamp: Reattach the hose to the dishwasher inlet and tighten the clamp securely.
- Test: Restore power and run a short dishwasher drain cycle to confirm proper flow.
