Possible Causes

Tripped circuit breaker, Loose mains connection at Franke control box, Faulty wall switch, Defective Franke power module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the circuit breaker feeding the disposal and verify power is off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching any wiring.

  • Check the breaker: Go to your electrical panel and look for a tripped breaker for the disposal or kitchen outlets. Reset it fully OFF then back ON.
  • Test the wall switch: With power restored, use a plug-in tester or multimeter at the Franke control box input (if accessible) to confirm 120/230 V is present when the switch is ON. If no power, replace the wall switch.
  • Inspect the Franke control module connections: Turn power OFF again. Remove the under-sink access cover to the Franke control/power module. Check that the line (L), neutral (N), and ground wires are firmly secured and not burnt or loose.
  • Bypass test (advanced): If you are qualified, briefly connect the disposal motor leads directly to a known-good power source (with proper plug and cord) to confirm the motor runs. If the motor runs but the unit is dead when connected through the module, the Franke power module is likely faulty.
  • Replace module if needed: If wiring and switch are good but the E1 indication persists, replace the Franke power/control module with the exact model specified for your disposal.

Warning: If you are not comfortable working with mains voltage, contact a licensed electrician or appliance technician.
