Possible Causes

Foreign object jammed in grinding chamber, Seized grinding plate, Tripped Franke overload protector, Bent impeller lugs

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the wall switch and the circuit breaker. Never put your hand into the disposal while it is connected to power.

  • Reset the overload: Locate the red reset button on the bottom or side of the Franke disposal housing. Press it firmly until it clicks. If it immediately trips again, do not keep resetting.
  • Clear jams with an Allen key: Insert the correct size hex (Allen) key into the hex socket at the bottom center of the motor shaft. Gently work it back and forth to free the grinding plate. Do not use excessive force.
  • Remove foreign objects: With power still OFF, use tongs or pliers from the sink opening to remove bones, cutlery, glass, or other debris from the grinding chamber. Rotate the plate again with the Allen key to ensure free movement.
  • Test operation: Restore power at the breaker, run cold water, then briefly turn the switch ON. If the unit starts normally, run it for 30–60 seconds to flush remaining debris.
  • If E2 persists: The grinding plate or impeller lugs may be bent or the motor partially seized. In that case, the Franke grinding plate assembly or complete Franke disposer motor unit may need replacement.
