Possible Causes
Food residue trapped under splash guard, Grease buildup on Franke grind ring, Sludge in discharge elbow, Rarely used disposer allowing bacteria growth
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the disposal and keep hands clear of the chamber.
- Clean splash guard: Remove the rubber splash guard (if removable on your Franke model) and scrub both sides with hot soapy water and a brush.
- De-grease chamber: Pour a mixture of hot water and dish detergent into the disposer, then run it for 30 seconds with cold water to flush grease.
- Use ice and citrus: Grind a tray of ice cubes with a few lemon or orange peels to help scour the grind ring and freshen the smell.
- Clean discharge elbow: Remove and clean the Franke discharge elbow if odors persist, as sludge can accumulate there.
