Garbage disposal runs but makes a rattling or clattering noise as if small objects are bouncing around inside.

Possible Causes
Small bones, fruit pits, or hard seeds in chamber, Loose screw or washer from Franke grind ring, Broken pieces of impeller lug
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the switch before reaching into the sink opening.
- Remove loose items: Use tongs or pliers to remove any small hard objects you can see or feel with a tool.
- Flush thoroughly: Run the disposal with plenty of cold water for 30–60 seconds to wash out remaining small particles.
- Inspect for loose hardware: If rattling persists, inspect the grind ring and impeller area with a flashlight. If you see loose screws or broken metal, the grinding assembly is damaged.
- Replace grinding components: Install a new Franke grinding plate and impeller assembly or replace the disposer if parts are not serviceable.
