Possible Causes
Motor overheated from jammed impellers, Extended run time with no water, Overloaded with hard food waste, Internal motor winding running hot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Always disconnect power at the breaker or unplug the disposal before touching the unit. Never put your hand inside the disposal chamber.
- Step 1 – Verify power: Turn the wall switch OFF. Check that the disposal is plugged in and the circuit breaker is not tripped. Reset the breaker if needed.
- Step 2 – Let the motor cool: If the unit feels warm, allow 10–15 minutes for the internal overload to cool down.
- Step 3 – Clear any jam: Insert a supplied hex wrench (usually 1/4") into the bottom center hex socket of the Frigidaire disposal motor shaft. Gently work it back and forth to free the impellers. Do not use excessive force.
- Step 4 – Press the reset button: Locate the small red reset button on the bottom or side of the disposal housing. Firmly press it until it clicks.
- Step 5 – Test operation: Restore power, run cold water, then briefly turn the wall switch ON. If it runs normally, avoid overloading and always run water during use.
- Step 6 – If it trips again quickly: The motor windings may be failing or the overload protector is weak. Discontinue use and contact a technician or consider replacing the disposal.
