Nuisance Tripping of Overload Protector
Garbage disposal stops abruptly during operation and will not restart until reset; this happens frequently under normal loads.

Possible Causes
Weak overload protector, Failing motor drawing excessive current, Overly heavy grinding loads, Insufficient water flow during operation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before inspecting the unit. Frequent tripping indicates an underlying issue.
- Step 1 – Review usage: Avoid grinding fibrous materials (celery, corn husks), large bones, or large quantities of food at once. Always run a strong flow of cold water.
- Step 2 – Clear chamber: With power off, remove any packed food from the chamber using tongs and rotate the impeller plate with a hex wrench to ensure it moves freely.
- Step 3 – Reset: Press the red reset button on the bottom of the disposal.
- Step 4 – Test with light load: Restore power and test with small amounts of soft food waste. If the overload trips again quickly, the protector or motor is likely failing.
- Step 5 – Replace unit if necessary: Overload protectors are integrated with the motor assembly on most Frigidaire disposals. If nuisance tripping continues, replacement of the disposal is recommended.
