Garbage disposal makes a high-pitched squealing or screeching noise when running.

Safety first: Turn off power before inspecting. Do not run the disposal for extended periods while it is squealing.

• Step 1 – Rule out chamber debris: Inspect the grinding chamber for foreign objects and remove them using tongs. Rotate the impeller plate manually to ensure it is not rubbing on the housing.
• Step 2 – Brief test: Restore power and run the unit for a few seconds with water. If the squeal persists and seems to come from the motor body, the bearings are likely failing.
• Step 3 – Avoid lubrication attempts: Motor bearings are sealed and not serviceable. Do not attempt to drill or oil the motor.
