Possible Causes
Faulty wall switch, Loose wire connection in junction box, Damaged power cord or plug (corded models), Failed internal wiring to motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker supplying the disposal before opening any electrical boxes. If you are not comfortable working with electricity, contact a qualified electrician.
- Step 1 – Confirm outlet power (corded models): Plug a lamp or small appliance into the same outlet. If it does not work, check and reset the breaker or GFCI outlet.
- Step 2 – Check the wall switch: With power off, remove the switch cover and inspect for loose wires or burned contacts. Tighten terminal screws if loose. Replace the switch if it feels loose or does not click firmly.
- Step 3 – Inspect junction box under sink: Remove the cover on the disposal’s junction box. Verify wire nuts are tight and no wires are burned or broken. Re-secure any loose connections using proper wire nuts.
- Step 4 – Test reset and continuity: With power off, press the reset button. If the unit still does not respond when power is restored and you have confirmed voltage at the disposal, the internal wiring or motor may be open.
- Step 5 – Replace if internal open: Frigidaire disposals are generally not serviced at the component level. If internal wiring or motor windings are open, replacement of the entire disposal is recommended.
