Possible Causes

Dried or cracked plumber’s putty under sink flange, Loose mounting ring, Corroded sink flange, Improperly seated rubber gasket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and disconnect the disposal from the mounting assembly before working on the sink flange. Place a towel or support under the unit to prevent injury.

  • Step 1 – Confirm leak source: Run water into the sink without operating the disposal. Use a flashlight under the sink to verify water is seeping from the top of the disposal at the sink flange area.
  • Step 2 – Remove disposal: Support the disposal from below, rotate the mounting ring counterclockwise to release it, and lower the unit carefully.
  • Step 3 – Remove sink flange: From above, lift out the sink flange. Scrape away old plumber’s putty or sealant from the sink opening.
  • Step 4 – Re-seal flange: Roll a rope of fresh plumber’s putty and apply it under the lip of the sink flange. Press the flange firmly into the sink opening.
  • Step 5 – Reassemble mounting hardware: From below, reinstall the rubber gasket, backup ring, and mounting ring per the Frigidaire installation instructions. Tighten evenly.
  • Step 6 – Reinstall disposal and test: Reattach the disposal to the mounting ring, reconnect plumbing and power, then run water to confirm the leak is resolved.
