How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the wall switch and disconnect power at the breaker or unplug the unit.
- Step 1 – Remove visible debris: Use a flashlight and tongs to remove any large objects from the chamber.
- Step 2 – Free the rotor: Insert a hex wrench into the bottom shaft socket and work it back and forth until the shaft rotates freely.
- Step 3 – Reset overload: Press the red reset button on the bottom of the disposal.
- Step 4 – Test with water: Restore power, run cold water, and briefly turn the unit on. If it runs smoothly, the jam is cleared.
- Step 5 – If it stalls again: Internal damage to the motor or impeller may have occurred; replacement is recommended.
