Mounting Incompatibility / Misalignment
Garbage disposal will not accept the GE mounting ring; cannot lock into place
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Non-GE or older mounting assembly, Deformed mounting ring tabs, Incorrect orientation during installation, Obstruction in mounting groove
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Support the disposal securely while working under the sink.
- Step 1 – Verify compatibility: Confirm that the sink flange and mounting assembly are GE-compatible or part of a universal mount kit designed for your model.
- Step 2 – Inspect mounting ring: Check the mounting ring tabs and grooves for bends, burrs, or debris. Clean and straighten as needed.
- Step 3 – Align properly: Lift the disposal into place, align the mounting ears with the ring slots, and rotate the ring using a mounting tool or screwdriver in the lugs until it locks fully.
- Step 4 – Replace mounting kit if damaged: If the ring or flange is deformed, install a new GE mounting kit and then attach the disposal.
Warning: Do not hang the disposal from a partially engaged mounting ring; it can fall and cause injury.
