Shorted motor windings, Severe internal jam, Defective overload reset mechanism, Internal moisture damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and unplug the disposal if possible.
- Step 1 – Clear any jams: Use the bottom hex socket to rotate the impeller plate fully. Remove any foreign objects from the chamber with tongs.
- Step 2 – Allow full cool-down: Wait at least 20–30 minutes for the internal overload to cool, then attempt to press the red reset button firmly until it clicks.
- Step 3 – Check for leaks: Inspect the unit for signs of water intrusion that may have damaged internal components.
- Step 4 – Replace unit: If the reset button will not latch or trips immediately upon power application, the overload or motor is defective. Replace the disposal.
Warning: Do not attempt to bypass the reset button; it is a critical safety device.
