Possible Causes
Knockout plug not removed (for dishwasher models), Miswired junction box, Outlet controlled by different switch, Reset button not pressed after install
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker before checking wiring or connections.
- Step 1 – Confirm power: Test the outlet or hardwire feed with a meter or tester to ensure power is present when the wall switch is ON.
- Step 2 – Check wiring connections: Open the disposal's junction box cover and verify hot, neutral, and ground are correctly connected with wire nuts and that the strain relief is tight.
- Step 3 – Press reset: Locate and press the red reset button on the bottom of the disposal.
- Step 4 – Verify switch control: Ensure the disposal is plugged into or wired through the correct switched outlet, not a constant hot or unrelated circuit.
Warning: If you are unsure about wiring, contact an electrician; incorrect wiring can damage the new disposal or cause shock.
