Possible Causes
Internal coupling between motor and grind plate failed, Broken shaft, Severe internal corrosion, Manufacturing defect in drive assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Do not attempt to disassemble the sealed motor/grind assembly.
- Confirm symptom: Shine a flashlight into the chamber and observe the grind plate while briefly turning the unit on (then off). If the motor sound is present but the plate does not move, the internal drive has failed.
- No field repair: InSinkErator units do not have user-serviceable internal couplings or shafts.
- Replace disposal: Remove and replace the entire disposal assembly. Retain the existing Quick Lock® mount if compatible with the new unit.
