How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker immediately to stop the disposal. Do not leave a continuously running unit unattended.
- Test the switch: With power off, remove the wall switch cover and inspect wiring. Replace the switch if it feels loose, overheated, or visibly damaged.
- Verify wiring: Confirm that the hot feed is on the line terminal and the disposal lead is on the load terminal of the switch. Correct any miswiring.
- Air switch systems: If using an InSinkErator air switch, unplug the air switch control box from the outlet to stop the unit. Replace the control box if it remains latched on.
- Restore power and test: After repairs, turn the breaker back on and verify that the disposal starts and stops correctly with the switch.
