InSinkErator
Organic Buildup in Grind Chamber and Discharge
Persistent foul odor from disposal even after running water and grinding ice

Possible Causes
Grease and food residue on splash guard, Sludge buildup under grind plate, Biofilm in discharge elbow and trap, Infrequent flushing with water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the disposal at the switch. Do not use harsh chemical drain cleaners.
- Clean the splash guard (baffle): Many InSinkErator models have a removable Quiet Collar® sink baffle. Pull it out and scrub both sides with hot soapy water and a brush. For fixed baffles, scrub in place.
- Flush the chamber: Fill the sink halfway with warm water mixed with a small amount of dish soap. Remove the stopper and run the disposal to flush.
- Deep clean: Grind a tray of ice cubes with a cup of rock salt or baking soda to scour the grind chamber. Follow with a rinse of hot water and a small amount of vinegar, then flush thoroughly.
- Clean discharge piping: If odor persists, remove and clean the P-trap and discharge elbow to remove sludge.
