Possible Causes
Failed internal shaft seal between grind chamber and motor, Corroded grind chamber, Cracked disposal housing, Loose or damaged internal fasteners
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and unplug the unit. Do not operate a leaking disposal.
- Confirm leak source: Dry the exterior, then run water into the sink without running the disposal. Observe if water drips from the bottom or reset button area.
- Rule out plumbing leaks: Check that the discharge elbow and sink flange are dry. If only the bottom drips, the leak is internal.
- No internal repair: InSinkErator disposals are factory-sealed; internal shaft seals and chambers are not serviceable.
- Replace the unit: Plan to replace the entire disposal assembly. Match the model and horsepower (e.g., Badger, Evolution series) for easiest swap using the existing Quick Lock® mount if compatible.
