Possible Causes

Deteriorated plumber's putty under sink flange, Loose mounting assembly (mounting ring not fully locked), Corroded or damaged sink flange, Improperly seated fiber gasket on stainless sinks

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and unplug the disposal if corded. Support the unit before loosening the mount.

  • Inspect mounting assembly: Look under the sink at the InSinkErator Quick Lock® mount. Check that the mounting ring is fully rotated to the locked position and all three mounting lugs are engaged.
  • Check for movement: Gently push up on the disposal. If the sink flange moves relative to the sink, the seal has failed.
  • Remove the disposal: Support the unit, rotate the mounting ring counterclockwise to release, and lower the disposal.
  • Reseal the sink flange: From above, remove the flange. Clean old putty from the sink opening. Apply a fresh bead of plumber's putty under the flange (or use the supplied rubber gasket for some stainless sinks per InSinkErator instructions). Reinsert the flange and reinstall the mounting hardware from below.
  • Tighten evenly: Tighten the mounting bolts evenly so the flange seats firmly and excess putty squeezes out. Wipe away excess putty.
  • Reinstall disposal and test: Reattach the disposal to the Quick Lock® mount, run water, and check for leaks.
