Possible Causes
Worn internal shaft seal, Corroded grinding chamber, Cracked lower housing, Freeze damage from exposure to low temperatures
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power at the breaker and avoid using the sink until the leak is resolved.
- Step 1 – Confirm leak origin: Run water into the sink without operating the disposal. If water drips from the very bottom of the Kraus unit or from seams in the housing, the leak is internal.
- Step 2 – Inspect exterior: Check for visible cracks or corrosion on the lower housing.
- Step 3 – Evaluate repair options: Internal seals and chamber corrosion are not serviceable on sealed Kraus disposals. Attempting to open the housing will void warranties and is unsafe.
- Step 4 – Replace unit: Plan to replace the entire disposal. Disconnect power, plumbing, and mounting assembly per the installation manual, then install a new Kraus disposal with fresh gaskets and putty.
