Possible Causes

Line and load reversed at switch, Disposal wired to constant hot, Stuck relay in air switch module, Incorrect connection in junction box

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Immediately turn OFF the circuit breaker to stop the disposal. Do not use the sink until wiring is corrected.

  • Step 1 – Confirm switch function: With the breaker OFF, remove the wall switch cover and verify that only the switched hot conductor goes to the disposal. The neutral should not be switched.
  • Step 2 – Check junction box: Inspect the wiring compartment on the Kraus disposal or under-sink junction box. Ensure the hot (usually black) from the switch connects to the disposal hot lead, and neutrals (white) are tied together.
  • Step 3 – Inspect air switch module (if used): If using an air switch, unplug the module. If the disposal stops, the module may have a stuck internal relay and should be replaced.
  • Step 4 – Correct wiring: Rewire according to Kraus and local electrical codes. If you are not comfortable with electrical work, hire a licensed electrician.
  • Step 5 – Test operation: Restore power and verify that the disposal starts and stops correctly with the switch or batch-feed stopper.
