Possible Causes

Running disposal too long continuously, Overloading with fibrous or hard waste, Restricted rotation due to debris, Poor ventilation around motor housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn OFF the wall switch and keep hands out of the chamber.

  • Step 1 – Wait and reset: Allow the disposal to cool for 5–10 minutes. Then press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit until it clicks.
  • Step 2 – Clear obstruction: Remove the splash guard and use tongs to remove any fibrous foods (celery, corn husks) or large bones. Use the bottom hex socket to ensure the shaft spins freely.
  • Step 3 – Short duty cycles: When using the disposal, run it in shorter bursts (under 1 minute) with plenty of cold water to avoid overheating.
  • Step 4 – Monitor frequency: If the overload trips frequently even with light use, the motor may be failing and the disposal should be replaced.
