Possible Causes
Worn stainless-steel impeller lugs, Smoothed grind ring teeth, Corrosion on grinding surfaces, Frequent grinding of hard materials (bones, pits)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the disposal before inspecting the chamber.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Remove the splash guard and inspect the grind ring and impeller lugs. Look for rounded edges and heavy wear.
- Step 2 – Ice cleaning: Grind a full tray of ice cubes with cold water to help knock off minor buildup and sharpen edges slightly.
- Step 3 – Adjust usage: Avoid putting very hard items (large bones, fruit pits) into the disposal to reduce further wear.
- Step 4 – Replace if performance poor: If grinding remains weak and large pieces pass through, the internal grinding assembly is worn. Replace the Kraus disposal to restore performance.
