Possible Causes
Knockout plug or packing material left in chamber, Mounting ring too tight causing binding, Foreign object dropped during installation, Misaligned sink flange
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the breaker and do not continue to run a humming new disposal.
- Step 1 – Check for packing material: Remove the splash guard and inspect the chamber for any cardboard, plastic, or packing foam left from shipping. Remove with tongs.
- Step 2 – Verify knockout removal: If a dishwasher is connected, ensure the internal knockout plug was removed and the plastic disc is not lodged in the chamber.
- Step 3 – Free the rotor: Use the bottom hex socket with the jam-buster wrench to rotate the shaft until it moves freely.
- Step 4 – Recheck mounting: Confirm that the mounting ring is snug but not overtightened to the point of distorting the housing.
- Step 5 – Test again: Restore power, run water, and test. If the unit still only hums, contact Kraus support or replace the disposal under warranty.
