Possible Causes
Tripped McAlpine reset button, Overheated motor from previous jam, Faulty internal thermal protector, Loose live connection at terminal block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the wall switch and isolate power at the breaker.
- Press the reset button: Locate the reset button on the underside of the McAlpine disposal and press firmly until it clicks.
- Allow cooling time: If the unit was recently overloaded, wait 10–15 minutes before attempting to restart.
- Check internal terminals: With power off, remove the lower cover and tighten the live and neutral terminal screws.
- Test operation: Restore power and briefly switch the unit on. If it still does not respond, the internal protector or motor may have failed.
