Possible Causes
Perished rubber gasket on McAlpine discharge elbow, Loose compression nut on outlet, Cracked plastic discharge spigot on disposal body, Misaligned McAlpine 90° elbow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power and do not run the disposal while the leak is present.
- Inspect the discharge joint: Dry the area and run a small amount of water through the sink (without running the disposal) to confirm the leak source is the side outlet.
- Disassemble the outlet connection: Place a tray under the joint. Loosen the McAlpine compression nut and remove the elbow and gasket.
- Replace the gasket: Fit a new McAlpine rubber outlet gasket or seal ring. Inspect the elbow for cracks and replace if damaged.
- Reassemble carefully: Align the elbow squarely with the disposal outlet and hand-tighten the compression nut, then snug it with pliers without over-tightening.
- Test for leaks: Run water and briefly operate the disposal while observing the joint. Tighten slightly more if a minor drip remains.
