Possible Causes
Deteriorated McAlpine sink flange rubber gasket, Loose mounting ring screws, Insufficient plumber's putty or sealant under flange, Corroded stainless sink around flange opening
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and unplug the disposal. Support the unit before loosening the mounting assembly.
- Confirm leak source: Fill the sink with a few centimetres of water without running the disposal. Check under the sink for drips around the top mounting ring.
- Remove the disposal: Support the McAlpine unit from below and rotate the mounting ring anticlockwise to release it from the sink flange. Set the unit aside.
- Replace flange gasket: Remove the old rubber gasket and any old plumber's putty. Fit a new McAlpine sink flange gasket and apply a fresh bead of plumber's putty under the flange lip if recommended.
- Reinstall mounting assembly: Refit the upper and lower mounting rings and tighten the mounting screws evenly to compress the gasket.
- Refit the disposal and test: Lock the unit back onto the mounting ring, reconnect plumbing and power, then fill the sink and check for leaks.
