Possible Causes
Loose terminal screw in McAlpine junction box, Damaged spade connector on motor, Exposed conductor touching housing, Failing internal capacitor (if fitted)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately turn off power at the breaker. Do not operate the unit until the fault is corrected.
- Inspect terminal box: Remove the lower cover and check that all terminal screws are tight and that no copper conductors are exposed beyond the terminals.
- Check connectors: Ensure all spade connectors are fully seated and not discoloured from heat.
- Look for burn marks: Any signs of charring or melted plastic indicate serious arcing. Replace the affected wiring and components.
- Capacitor check (if present): Some McAlpine models use a start/run capacitor. If it is bulging or leaking, it must be replaced with an identical rated part.
