Possible Causes

Jammed grinding chamber, Foreign object blocking impellers, Overfilled chamber causing stall, Overheated motor windings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the disposal from mains power by switching off the circuit breaker and unplugging the unit if accessible. Never put your hand into the grinding chamber while power is connected.

  • Check for jam/overload: Shine a flashlight into the disposal from the sink opening. Look for bones, metal, glass, or fibrous food wrapped around the impellers.
  • Manually free the rotor: If your Miele unit has a hex socket at the bottom of the motor shaft, insert the correct Allen key and gently rock it back and forth to free the jam. Do not use excessive force.
  • Remove foreign objects: Use long-nose pliers or tongs to remove any visible objects. Do not reach in with your fingers.
  • Allow cooling: If the motor overheated, leave the unit powered off for 20–30 minutes to allow the internal thermal protector to reset.
  • Reset overload: Some Miele disposals include a manual reset button on the bottom or side of the housing. Press it firmly once. Do not repeatedly reset without clearing the jam.
  • Test operation: Restore power at the breaker, run cold water, and briefly switch the disposal on. If F01 returns immediately, the motor or overload device may be defective and professional service is recommended.
