Possible Causes
Seized motor bearings, Jammed grinding plate, Defective start capacitor (if equipped), Worn motor windings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Turn off the circuit breaker and verify the disposal is de-energized before any inspection. Never work under a wet sink with live wiring.
- Check for mechanical jam: Look into the grinding chamber with a flashlight. Use a wooden dowel or the supplied Miele jam wrench to gently move the turntable/impellers. They should rotate freely.
- Free the rotor: If stiff, use the hex socket at the bottom of the motor (if present) to work the shaft back and forth until it moves smoothly.
- Inspect for foreign objects: Remove any lodged items with pliers. Avoid bending the impellers.
- Check for bearing noise: With power still off, spin the rotor manually. Grinding or tight spots indicate bearing failure.
- Electrical components: If the unit still only hums and F02 reappears, the start capacitor or motor windings may be faulty. These are not user-serviceable on most Miele units; contact a qualified technician for capacitor or motor replacement.
