Possible Causes
Clogged discharge outlet on disposal, Blocked sink trap (P-trap), Obstructed connection to Miele dishwasher drain hose, Improperly installed baffle or stopper
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the disposal and disconnect power at the breaker. Do not work on plumbing with the unit energized.
- Check sink stopper and baffle: Remove the sink baffle or stopper and ensure it is not blocking the outlet opening.
- Inspect discharge outlet: Detach the discharge pipe from the side of the disposal. Use a small brush or plastic tool to clear any food buildup at the outlet.
- Clean P-trap: Place a bucket under the trap, loosen the slip nuts, and remove the trap. Clear any sludge or debris and reassemble, ensuring gaskets are seated correctly.
- Dishwasher knockout: If recently installed with a Miele dishwasher, confirm the dishwasher knockout plug in the disposal inlet has been removed.
- Flush system: Restore power, run cold water at full flow, and operate the disposal briefly to confirm proper drainage.
