Possible Causes

Leaking sink flange seal, Cracked disposal housing, Loose discharge connection, Failed internal leak sensor or wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Immediately switch off power at the breaker. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. Do not touch wet electrical components.

  • Inspect for visible leaks: Dry the cabinet area and then run water in the sink (with disposal off) to locate drips around the sink flange, side discharge, or dishwasher inlet.
  • Tighten connections: Check the mounting ring, discharge coupling, and hose clamps. Tighten evenly but do not overtighten plastic fittings.
  • Check sink flange seal: If water appears at the top of the disposal, the plumber's putty or gasket under the sink flange may have failed. The disposal must be removed and the flange re-sealed.
  • Inspect housing: Look for cracks or corrosion on the disposal body. A cracked housing requires replacement of the entire unit.
  • Leak sensor reset: Some Miele models have a small float or electronic leak sensor in the base pan. Once the area is completely dry and the leak is corrected, the sensor may reset automatically or via the control panel.
