Moen garbage disposal leaks from the side discharge elbow into the drain pipe

Safety first: Unplug the disposal or turn off the breaker before loosening plumbing connections.

• Inspect the discharge connection:
  • Locate the discharge elbow where the disposal connects to the sink drain trap.
  • Check for water seeping around the elbow flange or screws.
• Tighten or reseal:
  • Use a screwdriver to snug the two discharge elbow screws evenly.
  • If leaking persists, remove the screws and elbow.
  • Inspect and replace the rubber tailpipe gasket between the elbow and disposal outlet.
  • Reinstall the elbow, ensuring it is square and evenly tightened.
• Check drain trap alignment:
  • Ensure the P-trap and drain pipes are not forcing the elbow out of alignment.
  • Loosen slip nuts and realign if necessary.
• Test:
  • Run water and observe for leaks at the elbow and slip joints.
