Possible Causes
Dried or cracked plumber's putty under Moen sink flange, Loose mounting ring, Deformed or misaligned sink flange gasket, Corrosion around sink opening
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the disposal or turn off the breaker before loosening the mounting assembly.
- Verify leak location:
- Look under the sink while running water (disposal off).
- If water appears at the top of the disposal where it meets the sink, the sink flange seal is leaking.
- Remove the disposal:
- Support the unit from below.
- Rotate the mounting ring counterclockwise to release the disposal from the Moen mounting assembly.
- Reseal the sink flange:
- From above, remove the sink flange and old plumber's putty.
- Clean the sink opening thoroughly.
- Apply a fresh, even bead of plumber's putty under the sink flange lip.
- Reinsert the flange and reassemble the mounting hardware from below, tightening evenly.
- Reinstall disposal:
- Hang the disposal on the mounting assembly and rotate the mounting ring clockwise until fully locked.
- Reconnect discharge and dishwasher hose.
- Run water and check for leaks.
