How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the switch and unplug the disposal or shut off the breaker.

  • Free the rotor:
    • Insert a jam-buster wrench or 1/4" Allen key into the bottom hex socket.
    • Work it back and forth until the jam plate rotates freely.
  • Clear chamber:
    • Use tongs to remove any visible obstructions.
  • Reset and test:
    • Press the reset button on the bottom.
    • Restore power, run water, and test briefly.
  • If symptom persists:
    • The start winding or capacitor is likely failed. Replace the disposal.
