Moen garbage disposal runs but water backs up into the dishwasher

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the disposal. Do not run the dishwasher until the issue is resolved.

• Inspect dishwasher hose:
  • Check for kinks or sags in the dishwasher drain hose.
• Check inlet port:
  • Loosen the hose clamp and remove the hose from the dishwasher inlet port on the disposal.
  • Inspect the port for plastic from the knockout plug or food debris.
  • Use a screwdriver to clear any remaining knockout material (ensure it falls into the disposal and is later ground up and flushed).
• Flush the hose:
  • Run water through the hose into a bucket to confirm it is clear.
• Reconnect and test:
  • Reattach the hose with a secure clamp.
  • Run the disposal with water and then run the dishwasher to verify proper drainage.
