Moen garbage disposal runs but water leaks from the electrical junction box or cord entry

Safety first: Immediately turn off the breaker and unplug the disposal. Do not touch any wet electrical components.

• Locate source of water:
  • Dry the area and observe while running water (disposal off).
  • Identify whether the leak originates from the sink flange, dishwasher inlet, or discharge elbow.
• Repair primary leak:
  • Fix the flange, inlet, or elbow leak as appropriate (reseal, tighten, or replace gaskets).
• Inspect wiring compartment:
  • Once completely dry and power is off, remove the wiring cover.
  • Check for corrosion or burned connections.
• Replace if damaged:
  • If there is significant corrosion or evidence of arcing, replace the disposal.
• Reassemble safely:
  • Ensure the power cord has a proper strain relief and the cover is sealed.
