Moen garbage disposal will not turn on unless the reset button is pressed each time

Safety first: Unplug the disposal or turn off the breaker before inspection.

• Check for mechanical issues:
  • Ensure the jam plate spins freely using a jam-buster wrench.
  • Remove any obstructions from the grind chamber.
• Observe operation:
  • Restore power, run water, and turn on the disposal.
  • If it runs briefly then trips the reset under no load, the overload protector or motor is failing.
• Do not bypass safety devices:
  • Never attempt to bypass the reset/overload; this is a fire hazard.
• Replace the unit:
  • Because the overload and internal wiring are not serviceable, replace the Moen disposal.
