Project Source
Excessive Motor Torque / Loose Mounting
Garbage disposal causes a loud clunk when starting or stopping
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose mounting ring, Play in motor mounts, Misaligned discharge piping, Thin sink flexing under torque
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before tightening hardware.
- Tighten mounting screws: Under the sink, tighten the three screws on the Project Source mounting assembly evenly.
- Check discharge support: Ensure the drain piping is properly supported and not acting as a lever on the disposal.
- Reinforce sink: If the sink flexes, consider adding bracing or sound-deadening pads.
If clunking persists and appears to come from inside the unit, internal mounts may be worn; replacement is advised.
